Our recent gig at the Irish Dragon Pub in Killeen really got me back into the Irish drinking songs. Just been wanting to hear more. And I noticed something, which'll require a wee bit more investigation... there's a big difference between Irish and Scottish songs.
Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers
Irish drinking songs and Irish folk music, in general, are some of my favorite songs to sing. I guess that comes from being a fan of The Dubliners, The Wolfe Tones, The Irish Rovers, and The Clancy Brothers. So when I had a revelation in 2003 to compose an album entitled Irish Drinking Songs for Cat Lovers, I decided to start writing. Lo and behold, I'm halfway there.

On the Diginity of How to Wear a Kilt
Since we are on the topic of removing pants: My first encounter with the kilt phenomenon this Pennsic. Anyone who has ever worn a real kilt knows instantly that there is no dignity to be salvaged from kilts. I am not talking about those wimpy little kilts that you simply buy and strap on. Bah! I am talking the real deal here. Why do we wear them? Because the women want us to. Actually, a pretty good reason... I decided to join the ranks of kilt wearers.
Preserving the music of a culture
I was listening to a cassette of Irish pub songs by The Dubliners on the way to work, and it brought up some memories. I started the Bard's Celtic Lyric Directory for two reasons: one, to preserve traditional Celtic songs in the new format, MP3; and two, (always the marketer) to establish ourselves as the forerunner of traditional Celtic songs in this format. To some degree, I've kinda been successful too.
